2005 All Japan Show Taigyo Champion
January 25, 2005
The 2005 All Japan Show was a historical landmark in more ways than one.
It was the first time that the show was held using the "My Pool" system where strict bio-security is maintained thoughout the event by using dedicated ponds and dedicated handling equipment.
Koi were segregated not only by size, but also by owner or handler, in order to prevent the transmission of disease. This style of showing has long been the norm in Europe and the United States, but this was a first for the All Japan Show.
In all, 101 judges were divided into 23 teams and assigned the task of judging 1800 koi. The first order of the day was to select a Grand Champion, which was a closeley contested race between a spectacular Showa owned by Shigeo Komatsu of Nagano prefecture and a stunning Kohaku owned by Martin & Mark of the United Kingdom.
Pictured here is the amazing Japanese bred and British owned
Kohaku that was awarded the All Japan Taigyo Award, missing Grand Champion by just 5 votes!
