Two year old daughter of "Olive no Uta" features a body conformation seldom achieved in Showa. Note the smooth strong bone structure that extends through the tail tube, giving her an air of strength and dignity.

Showa as a variety, are often prone to a weakness in the withers that gives them a "pinched" looking tail tube or the appearance of an overdeveloped abdomen.

Sakai has bred a line of Showa that overcome all of the shortcomings that have plagued many other Showa bloodlines.

Although difficult to see in a photo, what attracted me to this Showa was the stark contrast between the Beni and the Shiroji.

The Beni has an almost neon-like quality that catches the viewer's eye and rivets one's attention while the Shiroji enhances the impression of the Beni by providing a brilliant contrast.

Last but certainly not least, the life of any Showa lies in her Sumi. The importance of the Sumi in this Showa lies not in the quantity of the Sumi, but rather in it's strategic positioning.

Starting at the mouth we can see how the black is just starting to emerge, giving her the critical "three colors" on the head. This mouth Sumi is complemented by a pinprick of black that is visible on the left eye, the Meware rising in the middle of the forehead, and the beginnings of Hachiware at the tops of both gill plates.

Those familiar with the development of Sumi in Showa can visualize the connecting of the emerging Sumi to form a bold Menware bisecting the forehead in a classic lightning bolt pattern.

Classic Mototguro at the base of both pectoral fins anchors the Sumi to the overall pattern while allowing the eye to move on to the demonstrative plate of Tsubo Sumi that starts by the dorsal fin wrapping firmly down the flank.

Make sure you view the video for full appreciation of this beauty.
